Summary: The Germans needed oil in the Caucasus Region in order to continue their war campaign, therefor it was in order for them to capture the city garding the fields. This was Stalingrad. Finally against all odds the Russians trapped the Germans inside of Stalingrad and were able to defeat the Germans.
